The Walter Reed Society, Inc. was founded in 1996, for charitable and educational purposes for the benefit of Walter Reed Army Medical Center and its educational, treatment and research activities, as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization incorporated in the District of Columbia (TIN 52-1961196) and registered as a corporation in the State of Maryland.

The Society’s vision is to serve as a strong voluntary organization - comprising individuals affiliated with the original Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) and its successor organization, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) - which actively supports the institution, its people and its legacy.

The purpose of The Walter Reed Society, Inc. is to:

Support activities and fund projects to benefit service members and staff at WRNMMC, particularly if associated with education, treatment or research

Provide good stewardship of the funds donated and grants awarded to assist service members and/or their family members, which are intended to provide them with help with unexpected financial needs and to provide them with specially identified equipment and services related to patient care at WRNMMC when other resources are not available

Seek to preserve the legacy of Walter Reed, the man and the institution named in his honor by involving and communicating with the membership and friends of WRAMC/WRNMMC through educational activities, the newsletter, and the website

Membership in the Society is open to all military and civilian personnel who have associations with WRAMC/WRNMMC to include patients, staff, those who attended any course of instruction at these institutions, providers of goods and services, friends and neighbors.
