A zoning battle is brewing over the Veteran Resort Chapel in the town of 4,500, and it may end up in federal court.

Peter MacDonald is a Vietnam veteran who was discharged from the Marine Corps. After a year of homelessness, the Department of Veterans Affairs examined him in 1976 and determined he had post-traumatic stress disorder, hearing loss and a broken back -- 100 percent disabled.

He said he and his wife are now using their life savings, as well as money from a second mortgage, to offer homeless vets in New Hampshire a place to live, pray and heal.

"These are the men and women that fought for this country," MacDonald said. "They should have the right to live in it wherever they want, even if people in the neighborhood are scared. Because people assume the worst. They see homeless people and assume they're drug addicts and alcoholics."
