NEXT MEETING July 3rd 6PM at O’Shea’s Olde Inn

June was a super busy month. The Cookout at Coast Guard Station Chatham on June 7th went very well.  The families had a great time, thanks to staff members who did the cooking and Terry Clen for so much work on this. CCVI thanks Dennis Public Market, Petersen’s Market, Cape Cod Ice Cream, Patrick’s Trivia, and Cape Cod Embroidery.  Photos on our web site.

June 9th CCVI sponsored a Day of Fishing for Wounded Warfighters from Spaulding, in Falmouth. The Heroes had a fantastic day and caught over 140lbs of fish. Thanks to the 4 boat captains & crew, The Boathouse Rest., Rob Warren, Mary Pastone of Spaulding, Cape Cod Embroidery and CCVI Piper Dave Wilson. Again Terry Clen did a fantastic job getting this done!

Thanks goes to Jim Pickering & Masonic Angel Fund for their $1,000 donation.

The June 22nd Sarah Swain & Oh Boys’ Concert at the Sand Dollar absolutely was packed. Thanks so much to Sarah & the Boys’ for their support. Sand Dollar owner Terry O’Donnell donated $500, former Dennis Selectman Jane Otis (now living in Aruba made a generous donation), also thanks to Julie Bryant, Dave Collette and so many more. Great Job Terry Clen.

Contacted by VA Hyannis Counseling & Readjustment Center for help. CCVI delivered our #50 Visa Gift Cards to assist a disabled Veterans family in need and will deliver more cards this week. The VA also asked CCVI to assist a totally disabled Vietnam Veteran in Hyannis. Jack Skulls and I visited his yard June 18th, which has not been touched in 15 years, it is a jungle. I contacted Maj. Neal of the Barnstable Sheriff’s Dept. to request assistance. On June 25th we met and they agreed to help us get the work done. The Veteran needs new windows including a picture window, gutters hung, rear deck & outdoor shower removed, new steps, etc. Nauset Disposal will donate a 30 yard dumpster & Port-a-potty. CCVI will pay for the materials and support. July 1st The Richies’ dropped off a letter to the Veterans insurance company, explaining the need for the extension and it was granted. The work will begin the second week of July

July 1st we dropped off more $50 CCVI Visa Gift Cards at the Veterans Admin. Center in Hyannis.

Merrill Park Restoration coming along, 200 boards with engraved names, will grace the new walkway each board is $80 (cost to engrave is $40). Mid-Cape Home Center will donate the materials. The new walkway and siting deck will be deserving of a war Hero. All remaining funds raised, will be turned over to the Town of Dennis, for future beautification of the park.

July 3rd staff by invitation, will attend a social at the Chatham Council on Aging, to partner with Veterans & Spouses Support Group. Received a check from Kathleen Healy, Seamus’s Daughter for $165 from Open Mic Night (Monday night at O’Shea’s Olde Inn).  Tuesday, is Patrick’s Trivia Night also at O’Shea’s at 7PM, followed by the Skiffs. CCVI is working on a yearlong Veterans Trivia Challenge, one night every 3 months, for points that will get some nice prizes, this will support CCVI. CCVI has 2 teams already. CCVI is hoping to have a slow summer before entering our hectic fall season. We may not depending on Veterans’ needs and Merrill Park.

Several Supporters and friends of CCVI lost loved ones in June. Gus Healy lost his mother in Ireland, and Sheila Glynn lost her husband. Our prayers and condolences are with both families.
