NEXT MEETING NOVEMBER 7TH
AT LA SCALA, DENNIS PORT, 6PM

Oct. 10th Met in Falmouth with Beacon Hospice’s Honor Veterans Program which is moving forward and now has quite a large number of groups working to better our Veterans final days.

Wings Fest Oct. 12th at the Irish Village was great and we packed the house. The Sand Dollar won three trophies. Members of The Wounded Veterans Initiative of Canine Companions were there to inform the public about their program, we attended their fundraiser on Oct 5th. Our Service Officer, Peggie Matthews (Operation First Response Inc) interviewed several veterans and will file claims for them. Donation was made to Operation First Response Inc.

Liaison Director LTC. Manfredi (Ret) has requested donations for three Cape units that just deployed or are in the process of deploying to Afghanistan. These units will “close out” Afghanistan for our involvement ( thank God) and have very little to no comforts. Packages were sent out by CCVI & Dictrict 17 member Butch Banis directly to the units, as LTC. Manfredi is in daily contact with their Commanders, as well as caring for their families here on the Cape. VFW Post 10274 sent $300 for items and mailing and CCVI will send a $300 check from money set aside for Cape Units deployed.

Oct,19th Jack Skulls and I picked up a donated ($19,000) new electric wheel chair. It is stored at our Finance Officer’s shop ( and what a “little” fun shop Scotty has, forklift and all), it needs a new battery that we will supply before we give it to a Veteran or one of our groups that we work with.

Oct. 21st Several members and relations have called our Service Officer and are now are on the way to getting their benefits.

Members will be at Bourne National Cemetery for Veterans Day and Wreaths Across America. Wreaths will be donated as usual for Final Resting Places.

Our Kenny McGilvray Halloween Shootout Oct. 26th was full and we had a grand time, the party at the Sand Dollar rocked. Thanks to Greg Buckley and singers and owner Terry O’Donnell for donating the food. A $1,500 donation will be make to Brewster Animal Rescue and $1,500 to our organization. Next year is booked already for Oct. 25th.

New Challenge Coins to be ordered (100) as we go through a lot, shirts, jackets, etc. can be ordered at Cape Cod Embroidery, Queen Ann Rd. Harwich.

Sean O’Leary offered CCVI a $600-$800 raffle Item from his company off any work.

Numerous emails request aid or offers of assistance.

Working with a group of Sea Captains who contacted CCVI to put together a Veterans Fishing trip in Falmouth, target date is May 27th 2014. CCVI Executive Director, Captain & Harbormaster Terry Clen will run this event.

A Navy Veteran requested aid for her daughter who is traveling to Texas for treatment, this will be taken up at the Nov. 7th meeting.

Nov. 6th I will be Guest Speaker at Harwich Middle School and Nov. 8th I will be speaking at the Veterans Luncheon at the Orleans Senior Center, (reservations only) I am requested also to speak at the Cape Cod Academy this week.

Received a letter Nov. 2nd asking our members to go to Mayflower Nursing Home to meet with a WWII flier. His daughter lives off Cape and can’t be there. We also have Chris Mack playing there for the Veterans that day. Jill McDonald from Beacon Hospice has asked Chris to perform at 10AM on Nov, 10th , Hopefully Chris can play and I will recommend we pay for this. Staff Members will be there.

Veterans Day Concert at the Irish Village set for Nov. 10th, 7PM Sarah Swain & the Oh Boys will rock the house, $10 donation.

Trying to get members of CCVI and VFW Post 10274 to Eagle Pond Nursing Home on Nov. 11th as requested by the Home.

Our Christmas Party is at La Scala Dec. 7th 3PM. Last year we had over 60, trying for 75 this year $25. This includes buffet, tip, music and prizes. Chris Mack performing his fantastic music.

Christmas Party at Eagle Pond Nursing Home not set yet. We will assist Amvets Post 333 in the cost.

MEETING DISCUSSIONS FOR Nov. 7th

Email

“I am currently an AmeriCorps Cape Cod member working in Barnstable County. We are planning our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day for January 20, 2014, and we were wondering if you have any service projects that you would like us to do or help with on this day. Please contact me at my email or phone number. Thank you, have a great day, I look forward to talking with you.”

Email

Received this email and responded that we are in fine fiscal shape and not in need of donations

“Good Afternoon: I would welcome the opportunity of speaking with someone from your organization. We are working with Steve Xiarhos and the Wounded Warrior Project in promoting the month of November to our veterans. We will be donating monies to the WWP and would like some information on your organization too. I do hope I may hear from someone soon. Thank you! Ginny *”

Transferring up to $10,000 to TD Bank “Heroes Account” and purchasing $3,000 in TD Visa Gift Cards with our logo on it for the next Walter Reed Trip.

Donations to needy Veterans. As debated, we are not donating to organizations that do the same work as us. No donations for clubs or other non-veterans issues.

Welcoming several new members, discussing accepting several donations from persons who have been in contact with us for some time.
